TRAINING IN
GISBORNE/EAST COAST

ENTRY-LEVEL TRAINING

A new entry-level training programme is running in Gisborne in 2019. It is mainly for people new to the industry – either school-leavers or people wanting to kick-start a career in forestry – but if you are returning to the industry after a break then you could also be eligible.

GENERATION PROGRAMME

This 'base-camp' course is aimed at school leavers and other new entrants, teaching basic forestry skills and ensuring students are work ready. At the end of the six weeks, trainees will have the fundamental skills, knowledge of the industry, fitness and aptitude needed to start work.

Students are then found training positions with contractors, and mentored over at least their first year of full-time work while they gradually learn the skills needed.

Training is led by Turanga Ararau at their Gisborne centre.

Course costs

The course is fees-free and assistance is given with other costs.
